About this course
Adverse childhood experiences shape how children develop, behave and learn, often for years afterwards. This qualification gives early years practitioners a proper understanding of what those experiences do and, more importantly, what can be done about them.
It is one of NCFE's reformed technical specialist qualifications, mapped to the early years practitioner occupational standard, and it is designed for adults already working in the sector.
Who this is for
This is an adults-only qualification. Because assessment draws on practice, you should be working in an appropriate early years setting. Talk to us before enrolling and we will confirm what you need.
What you will study
Three mandatory units, each 40 guided learning hours.

How family structures and childhood experiences shape a child's development.
Introduction to adverse childhood experiences
What adverse childhood experiences are, and how they affect children in the short and long term.
Understand strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by adverse childhood experiences
Practical approaches practitioners can use to support affected children and improve their outcomes.

How you are assessed
Internally assessed portfolio of evidence, externally quality assured by NCFE. Graded achieved or not yet achieved. Units two and three include criteria assessed in practice, so you need to be working in an early years setting.
Support while you study
