About this course
Most business ideas fail on the things nobody thought about: the legal structure, the cash flow, the question of who is actually going to buy it. This certificate works through those in order, and you finish with a business plan rather than a folder of notes.
It suits anyone thinking about self employment, and anyone who wants to understand how a small business runs before joining one.
Who this is for
Open to learners aged 16 and over. There are no formal entry requirements, though NCFE notes that a level 1 qualification is helpful preparation.

Initial steps for a business start-up
Testing the idea, understanding the market, and deciding whether it stands up. 30 guided learning hours.
Marketing for a business start-up
Finding your customers and reaching them without spending money you do not have. 40 guided learning hours.
Legal and financial considerations for a business start-up
Business structures, tax, insurance, record keeping and cash flow. 30 guided learning hours.
Developing a business plan
Pulling it all together into a plan that a bank or an investor would take seriously. 21 guided learning hours.

How you are assessed
Internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence and externally quality assured by NCFE. Not graded.
Support while you study
