Level 2 Award in an Introduction to Neuroscience in Early Years
A short award covering brain development in the early years and how to nurture self-regulation in children from birth to seven.
About this course
Early years practice has changed as the science has caught up. This award gives practitioners the underlying neuroscience: what is happening in a young child's brain, why the early years matter as much as they do, and how self-regulation actually develops.
It is short, focused and knowledge based, with no placement requirement, so it fits around a working week.
Who this is for
Open to learners aged 16 and over. There are no formal entry requirements, though NCFE notes that learners may find a level 1 qualification helpful preparation.
What you will study
Two mandatory units.
Understanding neuroscience in early years
How the developing brain works, what influences it, and what that means for practice. 45 guided learning hours.
Understanding self-regulation and how to nurture this in children from birth to seven
How self-regulation develops and the practical things adults can do to support it. 60 guided learning hours.

How you are assessed
Internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence and quality assured by NCFE. Graded as achieved or not yet achieved. No placement is required.
Support while you study
