About this course
Adult social care is one of the biggest employers in Tees Valley and it is recruiting constantly. This qualification gives you the knowledge employers want to see before you start, so you walk into the job already understanding what is expected of you.
It is a knowledge qualification, so you do not need to be working or on placement to take it. It does not confer competence or a licence to practise, but it is the recognised preparation for the job and it forms the knowledge component of the intermediate health and social care apprenticeship.
Who this is for
Open to learners aged 14 and over. NCFE sets no other entry requirements. Typically completed in six months.
What you will study
Nine mandatory units, all of which must be achieved.
Principles of communication in adult social care settings
Why communication matters and how to do it well. 17 hours.
Principles of personal development
Reflecting on your practice and keeping your skills current. 17 hours.
Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion
Working fairly and inclusively with everyone. 18 hours.
Principles of safeguarding and protection
Recognising abuse and harm, and knowing exactly what to do. 26 hours.
Introduction to duty of care
What duty of care means in practice, and handling conflicts and complaints. 9 hours.
Understand the role of the social care worker
Your role, your boundaries and how you work with others. 9 hours.
Understand person-centred approaches
Putting the individual in control of their own care. 34 hours.
Understand health and safety in social care settings
Risk, moving and handling, infection control and emergencies. 40 hours.
Understand how to handle information
Records, confidentiality and data protection. 9 hours.
